WORLD HUNGER

Jamileth's Historical context
There have been a variety of food systems over time. For a really long time in history, humans hunted for animals in jungles or grew food in crops for their own consumption, and food traveled only short distances. This does not mean, however, that long distance food exchanges were not happening. From spice trades to discovering exotic foods from colonies, a mercantile food system was formed from 1500-1750 that consisted of buy and trade techniques. This was replaced by the “settler-colonial” government during the nineteenth century in which white colonies traded luxury, expensive and basic foods and goods in return for European manufactured goods. The productive food government began to evolve right after World War II which was monitored by food industries and the arrival of European and American agricultural advocate. The idea that the entire world can experience a “food crisis” was coupled with the idea that one can foment a world free from hunger.
There are many examples of world hunger happening as far back as 436 B.C. starting with the Roman emperors prohibited food from people as a form of showing power and control over the population. As a result of this action thousand of Romans were pushed to desperate measure and drown themselves in the Tiber River. Then The Great Famine began in 1315 and ended in 1322 A.D. This all began with a bad planting season. Crops all over the world were a complete failure until the summer of 1317. During this time period of this world hunger there was high levels of crime, disease, massive deaths and cannibalism. Another example of a great famine was The Great Bengal Famine in 1770 through 1773 A.D. all across the lower area of India. The famine was mostly caused by the forced strategy by the British East India Company to export the opium of China.
