WORLD HUNGER

DEBATE AND CONTREVERSY
analogous to nuclear power: nobody loves it, but climate change has made its adoption imperative.” This means that the bigger reason behind why these studies are starting to take action is because of the big shifts in climate change causing crops to be unsuccessful and leading to loss of food production that waste both time and money. Let's take Africa as an example, the climate change in Africa has lead to the need of crops to advance on their adaptation towards the weather. Many argue that this idea of having to help farmers in developing countries produce more food without damaging natural resources is an necessary component of action needed to reduce poverty levels, world hunger and malnutrition to ensure that the following generations have access to the food they need at affordable prices.
But like in every big idea comes consequences and many debate that many are not investing in these types of ideas or studies. Public funding of crop science research has increased over the years. Others may argue that they are deeply concerned about Genetically Modified foods because of their health and any potential negative effects to health or the environment that are still unclear of. |
JAMILETH BELLIDOThe big question that can be answered in many different ways about world hunger would be “Can genetically modified food be the solution to ending world hunger?” The New York Times Blog states “Genetic modification is

ESMERALDA IBARRAGenetically modified food has been a controversy from the day they were introduced. In some cases some people can agree that genetic modified food is the solution to world hunger. Others can argue that genetic modified food is going against natures rules.
With an increasing world population genetic modified fields of food can help build bigger yields to create more efficient use of land, less uses of herbicides and other pesticides. In Fact recent advancements in soybeans created a new oil with health benefits for consumers. Including less saturated fat. Also, these oils have shown improved shelf life. Genetically modified food can also help improve water quality more precise use of chemicals. Also can reduce costs and labor intensity for farmers. In contrast, other people can argue that crops from Genetically modified seeds and plants produced using genetic engineering go under more safety testing than any other agriculture products, including conventional or organic crops, some people believe more research needs to be done and I agree. |
