JAMILETH'S GLOBAL CONTEXT
Hunger can affect any community, any race, any nation or any region of the world. Despite the seemingly large amount of food, factors such as climate change, increased demand for meat, a increase in the global middle class, and rapid population growth are making it difficult to provide safe, nutritious food in the years ahead especially for the world’s poorest people. In fact Over 800 million people do not have enough to eat that scales down to 1 out of every 9 people suffer from hunger. In Addition approximately 65% of the world's hungry is only in these following seven countries: India, China, The Demonic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan and Ethiopia.
As the world population increases the hunger issue increases on a massive world wide scale. Across Africa and in parts of South Asia and Latin America, hundreds of millions of people live on the edge of starvation. A drought, flood or outbreak of violence can push them over the brink. Poor people in developing countries spend between 50% and 80% of their money on food. Compared to the average American and European that only spends around 10% of their income on food. By mid century there will be at least 2 billion more mouths to feed in the world, and an with the expansion of the middle class population, they will consume more grain-fed beef, pork and other meats. One-third of food produced globally is either lost or wasted. The global system of growing, distributing, and selling food is not serving us well as millions of people go hungry while a third of all food produced is wasted.
